Stonebow - Late 17th or Early 18th Century. Made of wood and iron, 28¾ in. long. The bow is 27½ in. across. Strings not present. Stonebows were most popular between 1760 and 1810. They were used for sport and not combat. Both men and women used them to kill small game animals, such as rabbits and birds, and also for target practice. They were first used in the 14th or 15th century. Unlike the crossbow, the stonebow is curved downward at the tiller.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.
