Patton, George (1885-1945) American general and tank commander, known as "Old Blood and Guts"; considered one of the greatest military leaders in history. Autograph Letter Signed "George," on United States Military Academy stationery, 6pp, 6½x5", West Point, New York, 21 Aug. 1904. Fine; one faint spot below the signature. To his mother, in part: "I got your letter from Edinburgh…it must be live to see the 42nd drill. I wish I were an Englishman so that I could enter it and wear kilts and a bear-skin hat. The uniforms in our army are getting worse every year…." He describes activities at the Academy, the money he is making ($52 per month) and tells his mother not to buy him anything "besides the sword you got in France…."
