Original watercolor by an unidentified artist of Barbara Frietchie, the heroine of John Greenleaf Whittier's eponymous poem, famous for hanging a Union flag out of her window and for her patriotic words: "Shoot, if you must, this old gray head, but spare your country's flag…." Attractively matted and framed to 25"x18". Very fine.
