Barbier, George -- Pochoir Artist & Illustrator (1882-1945), one of the key French artists in advertising and graphic arts in the 20' and 30's.

Three works, two pochoirs and a vintage illustration from a magazine, all matted and framed. Included is "Au Revoir," a classic in blue of the melancholy of leave taking among the "tres riches." From one of his seminal, and most popular limited edition albums. Also, "Laissez-moi-seule!" -- an astute observation of haute couture at the time (1919). Last an advertising illustration from a vintage magazine: a fashionable young lady, holding a red mirror while a phoenix arises behind. Image sizes on the pochoirs: 8-3/4" x 11-5/8"; 11-3/4" x 8". Condition of all -- very fine.

A "pochoir" was a class of print usually hand-colored through a series of carefully cut out stencils. Popular in Paris, especially during the early decades of the 20th century. In the art deco period, used for fashion plates and specialty advertising and printings. Thus a medium favored by Barbier, who was one of many artists who made a living illustrating limited "editions de luxe", intended to be collectors items due to their limited circulation and high standards of printing. Lot of 3 prints.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.
