Watkins, Carleton E. Five Scenic Prints From The George Davidson Collection. Four photographs of 12,660 foot Mt. Conness (named after one of the first senators from California) taken during the summer 1890 expedition, 11x14" with mount; and "Coast Sculpturing," 4¾x7¾". Each piece is matted to 16x20". Fine condition. Watkins (1829-1916) was one of California's early commercial photographers. He published many views of the Yosemite Valley and in 1865 became the official photographer for the California State Geological Survey. These photographs were taken for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, under the leadership of George Davidson (1825-1911). Watkins gave the photos to Davidson in 1901 and 1902.
