First Authorized Separate Edition, BAL Printing B. Covers lightly marked, else fine.Alain de Suzannet bookplate. Preserved in a red cloth folding case. With nine lithographed cards illustrated by Joseph Hull, Chicago: The Western News Co., 1870, in original lithographed envelope.

Another edition, Chicago: Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, 1873), 16] unnumbered pp with wood-engraved illustrations, folding plate inserted. 32 mo, original tan printed wrappers. BAL Printing A, with the Chinese advertisement on p. [13]. Light cover wear, else fine. Unauthorized reprint issued as an advertisement for the Rock Island Route which in 1873 extended from Chicago to San Francisco. The cover depicts Ah Sin on his way to Hong Kong by rail. BAL 7248N. Barrett Library, p. 17. All of the above items are housed in a custom-made green slip case with Alain de Suzannet bookplate. Also, an 11x9" chromo lithograph, "The Heathen Chinee," and a copy of the December 1916 Overland Monthly, Bret Harte Edition (Vol LXVIII, No. 6); tattered covers.
