Hardie, James A (1823-76) Union Brigadier General; carried the orders giving George Meade command on the eve of Gettysburg. Autograph Letter Signed "Jas. A. Hardie" as Inspector General, on War Department letterhead, 8x5", Washington, 9 May 1866. Fine. To Joseph Barrett, Commissioner of Pensions, thanking him for his attention in the "case of the widow of the late Capt. Stevenson."
