A magnificent early set of this classic tale, 2 Vols., London, printed for John Stockdale, Piccadilly, 1790, 9x5½", 389 and 456pp. Fine; minor toning and small border loss on page nine, Vol I, not affecting text. With 17 copper-plate intaglio engravings. Original period leather boards; spines expertly rebound, with gold stamped titles and remarque stampings between the gold bands. Tom Hanks recently starred in the movie "Castaway," a modern version of the mariner who was abandoned on an island for close to a decade.
