STS-41-B to STS-41D, Collection of Seven Signed Photos & Covers, 40 Signatures Including Sally Ride, Judy Reznik, Ron McNair & Dick Scobee. NASA flew a number of Space Shuttle missions in the early and mid-1980s with designations derived from STS-41. The ambiguity was the result of a NASA decision to change designation of missions starting in Fiscal Year 1984 and to accommodate a dramatically increased launch manifest. Previously, missions were designated in the order they were flown. The difference in mission numbers and the years flown gets confusing because NASA returned to numbering missions in the order flown in 1988. STS-41B (Challenger) Crew signed photo and crew signed cover that does include Ron McNair, Mission Specialist and the second African American in space who perished in the Challenger disaster two years later. STS-41C (Challenger) Crew Signed photo and cover which include Dick Scobee who piloted this flight and then promoted as commander of STS-51-L which disintegrated during takeoff. STS 41-D First flight of Shuttle Discovery, delayed due to a mission abort two months previously. Crew signed photo and cover which includes Judith Resnik, the second American woman in Space who was a mission specialist aboard STS-51-L (Challenger) that disintegrated on takeoff. STS-41-F (canceled, no flight) STS-41-G Crew signed commemorative cover, first day of issue and signed by Esther C. Goddard at top left (postmarked Oct. 5, 1964) with the Shuttle crew signing along bottom which includes Sally Ride first woman in space and Mark Garneau, on this mission the first Canadian in space and now a Canadian politician at present serving as Minister of Transportation.
