Kalakaua Rex. Autograph letter signed ("Kalakua Rex"), 10 x 8 in., Honolulu, 1876, January 4, 3 pp. To Hon. D. H. Wells Mayor of Salt Lake City, expressing pleasure at having received a delegation of men from Salt Lake City and praising the "great results which labor, economy, industry and union have accomplished…converting "an almost desert waste" into a country teeming with products useful to man…." Important Hawaiian Royalty and Mormon Documents. Very fine, nearly pristine. Also included: 8 x 5 in. 2 pp. letter from Consul General of Hawaiian Consulate of San Francisco forwarding Kalakaua's letter, dated 1876. Some original ink smudging.
