Rare Apollo 1 Crew Signed, Oversized, Color Photo: Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee. Apollo1: Crew photo picturing the astronauts posed in their flight suits, a model of the original CM-012 command module on the table. It is boldly signed by each astronaut in felt tip pen: "Ed White", "Gus Grissom", and "Roger Chaffee". Apollo 1 was scheduled for launch on February 21, 1967. However, the mission never flew as a cabin fire during a launch rehearsal on Launch Complex 34, killed all three crew members on January 27, 1967. Apollo 7 was the only flight to take off from Launch Complex 34 after the tragedy. It was dismantled soon after, down to the concrete launch pedestal that now serves as a memorial to the three astronauts.
This is one of the larger signed photos we have seen and measures 10¾ x 13½ ", on mat to 12½ x 16". It has been carefully removed from an aging frame but still mounted on its acid free backing and mat. The signatures are bold and do not show any evidence of fading. In excellent condition and a significant piece of NASA history. Estimate Value $5,000 - UP

Realized $8,400
