Washington Sansom Silver Medal B-72. NGC graded Proof 64 (Circa 1859). Restrike Silver. Rarity 6+. Original obverse die. Fabulous natural iridescent toning on both sides featuring hues of violet and electric blue. The original dies for this rare medal were by John Reich, who engraved them in 1807. This piece is from the original obverse die, while the reverse die is from 1859. Hubs were made from the original reverse die and these medals in various compositions were sold between 1859 and the 1870s. A gorgeous original specimen of the desirable silver issue, virtually "as made" aside from a tiny spot to the left of the portrait. Of major importance to the Washingtonia fraternity of collectors.
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.
Ex Norweb Collection.
