Lot 934

Collection of Four Spiders in Dominican Amber. Amber is the solidified fossilized tree resin from some trees such as the extinct Dominican Hymenaea protea tree that produced resins to help heal breaks and gashes. Occasionally insects of arachnids became trapped in the sticky amber and are mummified (desiccated) with incredible preservation of soft tissues, muscles, microscopic detail and sometimes even color. DNA has been retrieved from the 25-35 million year old Dominican Amber. Spiders are much rarer than the usual found insects. The four spiders range in size from 4mm to 8mm and the clear honey colored amber nugget, polished on all sides range in size from 24 to 50 mm. Estimated Value $300 - 500

Realized $188
