Dr. Paul W. Gast, Chief of the Division of Planetary and Earth Sciences: Remarkable Personal Collection of Photos of Lunar Rocks & Geochemistry (1930-1973) "Moon Rocks Chief." That is how the New York Times described Dr. Paul W. Gast in his obituary on May 18, 1973. But for the three years prior to his untimely passing, Dr. Gast led a crew of scientists and geologists examining the trove of rocks and soil from the lunar surface. His work at NASA earned him the Medal for Exceptional Service and the Distinguished Service Medal, as well as awards from Columbia University. Offered is a large collection of about 400+ of his photos (almost all 8 x 10") from this period. Scores of images not commonly seen of the lunar surface, lunar samples, core samples, electron microscope images, chemical analysis, and great images of astronauts gathering samples on the surface. Photos (some duplicates) are in very good to excellent condition but not mint as these were studied and used, so some curled edges and light handling. Estimate Value $350 - UP

Realized $1,740
