Berlioz, Hector -- ALS Declining an Invitation From a Fellow Composer. (1803 - 1869) French composer, critic, and conductor of the Romantic period, known largely for his Symphonie fantastique (1830), the choral symphony Roméo et Juliette (1839), and the dramatic piece La Damnation de Faust (1846). Autograph letter signed "H. Berlioz," one page, in French, 7½ x 5", n.p.nd. To the French composer Pierre Monton-Berton, expressing pleasure at being invited to a reunion of friends, but regretfully declining, stating that he no longer accepts invitations to any type of affair. A few pencil notations at top in another hand; small tears with minor paper loss at top corners and lower right corner, touching the lower edge of the "i" and the tail of the "z" in "Berlioz." Old collector notation on verso. Boldly penned and signed. Estimate Value $500 - UP
