Lot 915

1787 Connecticut Miller 33.20-Z.11 Rarity 7+. Good-5. Sharpness at least VF20 but there are a half dozen dull dents on the obverse and two more on the reverse, and each of these dents is strong enough to cause a bulge on the opposing side. Otherwise the surfaces and planchet quality are very nice with only trivial roughness visible in the fields and protected areas. The color is an attractive glossy chocolate brown with medium brown toning on the devices. Struck very slightly off center to K-1 leaving the lower half of the date off the planchet, but the upper half of the date is clear and the legends are strong. All the die cracks known for this variety are present. Only 6 examples are known. Missing from the ANS and recently dispersed Ford collections, and this example shows a bit more detail than the Perkins coin. A very important piece for the serious collector of Connecticut coppers.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 5,000.

Realized $2,300
