Lot 837

1839 Liberty Seated Dime. PCGS graded Proof 64 PQ. Well struck and very choice. Wonderful blue and golden toning. Reflective mirror fields and frosty motifs. Some faint scuffs in the obverse field at 3:00 draw our attention, otherwise the coin is essentially flawless. The famous Eliasberg specimen of this very rare Proof, described there in part as "Obverse a beautiful combination of light magenta, heather and blue; reverse mostly electric blue. Gorgeous! Exceedingly rare in Proof format, and possibly only three to five are known, at least one of which is impaired."

If this isn't the finest specimen known to us (the Lovejoy-Kaufman specimen, NGC Proof 66 surpasses it by two points) it is certainly one of the most fantastically beautiful specimens in existence! Among the greatest seated Liberty dime rarities to appear on the market in our generation. NGC Pop 2, none finer (PCGS # 4722) .
Estimated Value $50,000 - 60,000.
