1788 Connecticut Mailed Bust Right Miller 4.1-K Rarity-5 VG8. Struck over a Nova Constellatio. Sharpness F15 where fully impressed, but the planchet is slightly granular. No marks or verdigris. Rather glossy dark olive brown. Undertype from the Nova Constellation copper is clearly visible on both sides, including TIO where the date should be on the Connecticut. While several 1788 Connecticut varieties are known overstruck on Nova Constellatio coppers, neither Perkins nor Ford had an overstruck example of this variety. Listed on page 62 in the "Redbook." Weight 120.5 grains.
Estimated Value $80-UP.
Ex M. B. Phillips, HIM Auctions 2/11/1983:1041-Carvin Goodridge collection (lot ticket included).
