Lot 8

1790 Standish Barry Threepence Breen-1019 NGC graded MS64, CAC Approved. Glossy light silvery gray with frosty lighter silver toning in the fields and protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and void of marks, and this piece has great eye appeal. Both dies are cracked, and the crack on the reverse actually bisects it from K-1 down to K-5.5. Nicely centered and well struck except for some weakness in the central part of the reverse. This is the finest example that has been certified, and the only finer piece known to us is a raw example that resides in the collection of the Maryland Historical Society. An outstanding piece for the advanced collector of early American coinage. And it comes with a nice provenance, as you would expect. Pop 1; the finest example graded at both services. Estimate Value $120,000 - UP
Ex Virgil Brand Collection (privately 11/8/1954)-John J. Ford, Jr.-Ford Collection, Stack's 5/2004:282 ($86,250)-Donald Groves Partrick, Heritage 1/8/2015:5660.
