Morris, Robert -- Document Signed by the Pennsylvania Signer (1734-1806) Signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution; American Superintendent of Finance (1781-84), known as the "Financier of the American Revolution." Partly-printed document signed "Robt Morris" as President of the North American Land Company, one page, on laid watermarked paper, 9¾ x 12½", Philadelphia, Oct. 15, 1795. 1795. Certificate No. 2073 for four shares in the company to James Rees. Countersigned by James Marshall, brother of John Marshall, who was the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Edge chips at left margin and discoloration around edges from prior framing. Three years after he signed this document, Morris would land in debtors' prison because of his unfortunate land speculations. A sad end for the "Financier of the Revolution." Estimate $500 - 750
