Neil Armstrong Inscribed and Signed Color Portrait Photo, ca. 1964; Thanks For Help on Gemini VIII. (1930-2012) Neil Armstrong and David Scott flew into orbit on the Geminini VIII mission to test a rendezvous and docking procedure with the Agena target vehicle as well as an EVA experiment. Mission was proceeding as planned but after docking, the combined vehicle began to tumble and pitch. Armstrong and Scott were able to deactivate the link and stabilize the capsule by using up much of the re-entry control system fuel. The mission was immediately aborted and retrofire began about 10 hours after launch. While much of the planned objectives were not achieved nevertheless much was gained on this mission including docking and controlled re-entry. Armstrong has boldly signed in Sharpie "To Denny-- With Thanks For Your Help on Gemini VIII, Neil Armstrong" on an official NASA Photo 10 x 8". Printed on verso "Manned Spacecraft Center Official Photograph, 10 September 64, Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, Texas, Astronaut Neil Armstrong" In perfect condition and scarce given the inscription reference to Gemini VIII by Armstrong. Estimate Value $750 - UP
