Herod I The Great. 40-4 BCE. AE half-Prutah (14 mm; 2.01 g). Mint of Jerusalem, Undated Series, ca. 40-4 BCE. BACIΛ HPWΔ; cornucpia with inscription. Reverse: Eagle standing r. Hendin 1190; T-66. Far nicer than usually seen. Choice Very Fine. Estimated Value $200 - UP
Popular type as the first coin issued by a Jewish ruler with a graven image. According to David Hendin, the eagle may represent the golden birtd King Herod placed above the entrance to the Jerusalem Temple.
