Enola Gay: "Escape Maneuver For Atomic Mission". Multicopy of a Drawing Which Outlines Plans for an Escape Maneuver for the Enola Gay Signed by Paul Tibbets. Accompanied by Two Signed Photographs. Multicopy Manuscript Document Signed, One page, Quarto, dated August 1, 1945. Entitled, "Escape Maneuver For Atomic Mission," this fascinating document presents drawn plans for an escape maneuver for the Enola Gay in the event of a last minute need to abort the mission. The drawing depicts the "Primary Target Hiroshima Japan" as a black bullseye, with circles radiating around the target representing "Bomb Flash," the first anticipated "Shock Wave," the second "Shock Wave," and the flight path of a secondary plane. The expected times of the detonation and shock wave events are given, along with flight paths and data for the planes and atomic explosion. The drawing is made to the Scale ¼ " = ¼ mile. The plan was made by R. A. Lewis, Major, US Air Force, and is boldly signed in blue ink by pilot of the Enola Gay Paul Tibbets, who has inscribed, "Paul W. Tibbets 11-5-90."

Accompanied by Two Signed Photographs, the first an attractive 8 x 10" Color reproduction of a painting of the Enola Gay entitled, "Atomic Warfare is Born." The photograph is signed by all the principal crew members, including Paul Tibbets (Pilot), Thomas W. Ferebee (Bombardier) Theodore J. Van Kirk (Navigator), Richard H. Nelson (Radio Operator), George R. Caron (Tail gunner), and Jacob Beser (Radar Countermeasure Officer). Each has signed in full in blue felt-tip pen. Also included is a Black & White, 8 x 10" Signed Photograph of tail gunner George Caron, inscribed "George R. Caron Tail Gunner - Enola Gay." . Fine.
Estimated Value $400 - 500.
