Lot 696

1839/6 N-1 R3+ Overdate 9 over 6 (or Inverted 9) F12+. Mostly glossy light olive brown with subtle overtones of sea green. Possibly lightly cleaned and retoned but still smooth and attractive. Void of any hint of corrosion or verdigris. Just minor marks consistent with the grade, including a pair of shallow nicks or planchet flakes in the field right of star 2 and one left of star 1. EDS, the obverse uncracked (Newcomb's die state I). The overdate feature is sharp. An above average example of this very popular "Redbook" overdate variety, close to F15.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex Jim McGuigan-Phil Horner 7/8/1983-Jim Corrado, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/11/2007:784.
