Lot 674

1793 S-1 R4 PCGS graded "Genuine." Chain AMERI. Sharpness F15 or slightly better but marked up a bit. There is a small patch of shallow pitting near the rim left of the L in LIBERTY and a slightly larger patch of similar roughness at AME on the reverse. Traces of reddish brown and olive green verdigris can be found in the bottom of some of the pitmarks. The remainder of the planchet is smooth, void of corrosion or verdigris, but there are numerous rim bruises on both sides, the most obvious of these at TY in LIBERTY. Several old scratches are in the mix as well, strongest on the neck and bust tip, but all of them blend perfectly into the glossy chocolate and steel toning. The date and legends are complete and strong. MDS, Breen state II, with swelling on top of the U in UNITED. A decent example of our first large cent in spite of the obvious defects. Our grade is net VG8.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 12,000.
