Magnificent 18th Century, Large Sterling Silver Shell Ladle plus Three Florentine Serving Pieces. Sterling silver ladle with marks dating this exquisite piece to the late 1700s Jan Lotter, a Cape of Good Hope Colony silversmith. Possibly Johannes Matthias Lotter (1759) son of Johannes Casparus Lotter (1737). Cup of ladle is in the shape of deep clam shell and has remained in very fine condition. End of ladle has been engraved with a small cross on a base and underside monogrammed with the letter S and just below it, G. F. Ladle is 3¾ ozt. The other pieces are simply Italian "Florentine" silver (heavily plated) and are called The DaVinci set as the crest atop fork is the DaVinci coat of arms while the spoon is the hallmark of Florence. Italy. These are very attractive quite practical and appear never to have been used. Come with original certificate and box. Estimate Value $300 - UP
