Lot 65

1804 C-5 R4 Spiked Chin PCGS graded VF25. PCGS graded VF-25 Brown. Glossy bluish steel and chocolate brown. Smooth and attractive. The only marks are a shallow planchet flake under the I in UNITED, as struck, and a light scratch below OF. This piece was struck two times. The first impression was at least 40% off center and the second strike was centered on the planchet. Strong evidence of the first strike is visible on the upper half of the obverse and lower half of the reverse. In addition to the obvious undertype, there is a very clear "8" from the date of the first strike located on the hair ribbon. M-LDS, Manley state 4.0, with die cracks on the reverse. A great mint error and worth a look even if you aren't interested in error strikes. Our grade is F12+. The Spiked Chin and Double Struck 40% Off Center features are all noted on the PCGS label (PCGS # 1075) Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
