Outstanding Monmouth Oaks First Place Sterling Silver Horse Racing Cup, 1966, Won by Willie Shoemaker and George Getty II. The Monmouth Oaks is an American Thoroughbred horse race which began running since 1871 in Oceanport, New Jersey at Monmouth Park, then had to be moved to the Bronx when New Jersey outlawed parimutuel betting. It returned to Oceanport in 1946 and has continued to host the most legendary fillies, jockies, trainers and horse breeders in America. Offering a very rare sterling silver first place trophy from 1966 awarded to Natashka, a filly owned by George F. Getty II (son of billionaire J. Paul Getty) who met with a violent, self-inflected death in 1973. Natashke was ridden by the single greatest horse jockey in the history of the sport, William Lee "Bill" Shoemaker (1931-2003) who for 29 years held the world record for total professional jockey victories. Trophy is engraved THE MONMOUTH OAKS, MONMOUTH PARK, WON BY NATASHKA, JULY 4, 1966. Trophy is stamped with Sheffield Silver Hallmarks near handle near the rim of the cup. From flame tipped lid to base is 13 x 7¼ x 7¼". Beautifully made sterling silver lidded cup, trophy is in excellent condition with only scattered minor rubs and scratches that in no way diminish this rare cup. 57 troy ounces.
