Lot 59

1845 N-2 R1 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Beautiful lustrous light steel brown with generous traces of mint red on the obverse and 15% of the reverse showing mellowed mint red. The eye appeal is outstanding and the only marks are a spot of darker toning (not carbon) in the dentils over the right side of the I in UNITED, a puff of similar toning at the upper left part of the N in CENT, and another at the left top of the N in ONE. Sharply struck MDS, die state a late. The fine die lines at the bottom of the second A in AMERICA are still visible and the lump over the N in ONE is weak but visible. Our grade is MS63+, CC#1 by a small margin in the Grellman census. A sharp, premium example of the variety. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; none finer. Estimated Value $1,750 - UP
