The Story of Mulla Nasruddin. Persian manuscript from the late 18th or early 19th century, Kashmir. 180 pages, hand-decorated, handwritten, gilt-illuminated throughout. Includes 16 magnificent color and gold hand-painted miniatures illustrating the narrative. 7½ x 4½ inch contemporary, hand-decorated boards, worn with damage to back board corners (partial loss). Interior four -edge corners of manuscript often repaired, not affecting text or illustrations. Binding loose with partial repair. A rare volume with magnificent hand-drawn and painted illustrations. Mulla Nasruddin is claimed by several countries, including Iran, Afghanistan, and Turkey. The stories are comic tales with a hidden meaning or moral.
