Sale 100

Lot 569

1798. Large eagle, 10 arrows. B-6, BB-96, Rarity 3. NGC graded EF-40. Attractive toning with traces of royal blue in the upper lettering on the obverse, golden lilac elsewhere. The strike is sharp enough to bring up all the devices, and showing the expected light wear on the highest points of the design. This obverse die is interesting because is used the short-lived Knob 9 punch in the date, and the reverse has the early style "Star Cross" pattern above the eagle, where the stars are placed in straight lines intead of arcs. Nice quality for this scarce early 1798 die variety. Pop 2; 12 finer at NGC for the variety. Estimate Value $3,000 - 3,250

Realized $2,938
