Miniature French Stamp Box by Tahan, Paris. C. 1850s Wood with brass trim, with "Tahan Paris" stamped around lock, 1½ x 3¼ x 2¼ in. One tray. Inlaid within a brass design on the lid is an imperf bronze and blue stamp with a bust portrait of Napoleon III and "Empire Franc" at the top, "20 C. Postes 20 C." below. Wood shows wear, expecially around lock; box opens but key is missing. Fair condition. Alphonse Tahan (1830-1880) was official ébéniste (cabinet maker) to Napoleon III (French emperor from 1852-1870).
