Lot 520

1844 N-3 R2. MS-62. Repunched 18. Frosty olive and steel brown with generous traces of original mint red showing on both sides. Excellent eye appeal. No spots, stains, or notable signs of contact. The only defects are a thin, barely visible planchet fissure hidden in the dentils under star 1 and a small nick-like planchet chip high on the neck, both as struck. MDS, die state c, with thin rim cud breaks at stars 8 & 9. The hair at the top of the ear is not fully struck, as always with this variety, but the remainder of the strike is excellent and all the stars show full radial lines. CC#4.
Estimated Value $600-UP.
Ex Pete Boisvert (JGM Numismatics)-McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 9/98:1707-Phyllis Thompson.
