25 Scarce, Early 20th Century Postcards: 3 Rare (T.) Roosevelt Bears Cards, 12 Cards by Howard Christy, 10 by Harrison Fisher. Fine collection of historic postcards, a snapshot of very early 20th Century culture and style. 1.) Three highly prized postcards of the Roosevelt Bears. These were a series of postcards based on the immensely popular 1906 children's book The Roosevelt Bears by Seymour Eaton. Eaton is credited with the term "teddy bear" based on Teddy Roosevelt. Cards #4 # 12 and #18 are included and all three in unused, near mint condition. These cards can sell for upwards to $90+ depending on condition and these are of that quality 2.) 12 different black and white illustrated postcards printed in 1905 by Howard Chandler Christy, one of the most popular illustrators of the time and by 1938 Time magazine called him the most commercially successful US Artist in 1938. Christy is known for his portraits of six US presidents and his deeply patriotic WWI propaganda posters. The 12 here are all completed and printed B&W sketches in very fine condition. 3.) Ten color postcards by the great illustrator, Harrison Fisher whose portraits of women and fashion capture the era like few others. He illustrations graced a great number of magazines at the time as well as WWI propaganda posters. Very fine condition
