Lot 481

1876-CC. DDR, FS-801 (FS-014). PCGS graded MS-62. Nicely toned with antique golden russet spanning both sides. The strike is sharp and pleasing for this rare issue. Notice on the lower reverse where the branch is doubled, with the second branch well below the primary, this is a wonderful example of a doubled die as rarely is the offset so dramatic! This impressive doubled die reverse was discovered by the famed dealer Jack Beymer at least 30 years ago and was well documented at the time. However, precious few have been discovered, confirming the long held rarity of this prized die variety. To date perhaps 100 to 150 have been certified between both major grading services. That's not many given how strong the market is for Trade dollars. Bear that in mind when forming your bid. Pop 2; tied for the finest examples graded at both services for the variety. (PCGS # 145815) Estimate Value $13,000 - 14,000

Realized $16,200
