Murrow, Edward R (1908-65) Journalist famous for his reports from London during World War II. Four letters, including three autograph letters signed ("Ed") to Ken Holland, president of the Institute of International Education in New York, where Murrow was assistant director from 1932 to 1935, total of 3½ pages, 10½ x 7¼ in. The first, on Institute letterhead, is dated July 24 (n.y. (c. 1935). In part, "…this damned German business is hell. I don't know whether to send students over there or not…." The second letter is c. 1937, when Murrow was sent to London for CBS (he was hired by CBS in 1935 and spent the rest of his career there; a newsy letter mentioning that he is off to Nice for a conference. The third letter is dated Feb 2nd (c. 1938), with good content, in part: "my colleagues seem to have finally decided that Europe isn't going to have a war just yet….I'm convinced that the British are preparing to grant a sizeable loan to Germany….Everyone [in London] is terribly pro American - doing their best to conceal their contempt for us - for that state of affairs we have Japan to thank of course. …I'm off to Berlin at the end of this month - the moral climate there won't be so pleasant! How they love me…." The fourth letter is a typed letter signed "(Ed Murrow") on CBS letterhead, New York, March 24, 1947. To Dr. Roscoe D. McMillen, Secretary of the Medica Society of State of North Carolina, inviting him to listen to a broadcast on the nation's health, titled "A Long Life and A Merry One" and asking him to inform the members of his organization.
