(Berchtesgaden) The Eagle's Nest. Collection of 38 black and white photos: 20 3 x 4 in. photos by an unknown photographer before the Allied bombing and 18 2½ x 3½ in. snapshots taken by Donald E. Terrill, General Patton's driver, during their tour of Hitler's mountain retreat in Obersalzberg after the bombing; the latter are annotated on verso in Terrill's hand. Included are views from Hitler's house that Terrill refers to as "Hitler's hideout," Goring's home, entrances to Berchtesgaden, views of devastated SS barracks, the hot house, etc. With a copy of a newspaper article naming Terrill as one of Patton's drivers; a contemporary print map of "Obersalzberg / Hitler's Mountain Retreat," 8¼ x 11¾ in., indicating the various roads and structures; a copy of History of the Eagle's Nest, a soft-cover, 208 page book with 530 pictures by Florian M. Beierl, published in 2001; a 1980 German publication, Obersalzberg from 1933 to 1980, with many before and after photos; 6 photo postcards of the ruins; and 2 other WWI prints. An interesting collection.
