Duyckinck, E.A. National Portrait Gallery of Eminent Americans…With Biographies. New York: Johnson, Fry, & Co., in two volumes, 1861 and 1864. Containing 151 portraits, from original full-length paintings by Alonzo Chappell. The subjects include orators, statesmen, naval and military heroes, jurists, authors, etc.; for example, Joseph Warren, John Hancock, Richard Henry Lee, James Otis, Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, John Paul Jones, Nathanael Greene, Daniel Boone, Abraham Lincoln, and Robert E. Lee. The covers of Vol I are detached and front pages of both volumes have some stains and soiling; the portraits of Washington and Franklin are torn; some toning and foxing throughout both volumes. The engravings can be taken out and sold separately, if desired.
