Eisenhower, Dwight D. -- TLS as President (1890-1969) 34th President of the United States (1953-1961). He served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe during World War II. Typed letter signed "Dwight D. Eisenhower" as President, one page, on The White House letterhead, 9 x 7", Washington, April 13, 1954. To Major General Melvin J. Maas, USMCR (Ret.), appointing him Chairman of The President's Committee on Employment of the Physically Handicapped. "…I want to thank you…and to congratulate you on the opportunities which will be yours for added service in this most important field of human endeavor." Fine. With transmittal envelope. Accompanied by a telegram sent by Eisenhower on Sept. 11, 1952, during the presidential campaign, to California Senator John F. Thompson, to be read at a barbeque of nonpartisan political clubs.
