Lot 432

Extraordinary & Rare Collection of 15 Porcelain Pieces from the Nanking Cargo Sunken Treasure. The Chinese porcelain in this lot were all recovered by a treasure salvage operation undertaken in international waters in June of 1985 that became known as the Nanking Cargo. The shipwreck was identified as the Geldermalsen, a vessel of the Dutch East India Company, lost after hitting a reef, while making the return journey from China to Amsterdam in 1752. The Geldermalsen carried porcelain from both the Ming and Ching dynasties as well as gold ingots. Offered are rare, intact pieces of handpainted porcelain from this historic dive. Included are 5 teacups and 5 saucers, 1 cup with hand and saucer, 1 bowl with saucer, and creamer that is plain without ornamentation. Understand while the design's blue underglazed painting is clear, the overglazed colors have oxidation from 200 years in the sea. There are no reign marks on the bottom of the pieces, obviously these pieces were made for export in the Mid-18th Century.

Collection comes with Certificates of Origin, Certificates of Authenticity and the 176 page book, THE NANKING CARGO, fully illustrated including photos of porcelain pieces exactly as are in this collection. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP

Realized $735
