Lot 42

1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0, Reverse of 1803 PCGS graded VF20. Slightly glossy medium steel and chocolate brown with slightly lighter steel brown toning on the devices. No corrosion, but traces of fine dirt are visible around the date and LIBERTY. There are myriad faint hairline scratches on the portrait and in the field left of the hair ribbon, but you need a glass to see them. The only marks visible to the unaided eye are a small rim nick over the Y in LIBERTY and another at UN in UNITED. Very rare LDS, Manley state 5.0, with a rim cud break from the second A in AMERICA to below the second 0 in the denominator. In addition there is a thin rim cud over UNI and a fine but clearly visible die crack through the tops of IC to above the letters on either side. This example, in spite of the minor marks, is superior to the Manley plate coin for the late die state (5.0). Our grade is net F15. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 6 finer, 1 in 25, 3 in 30, 1 in 35, 1 in 45 for the variety. Estimate Value $5,000 - UP
Ex Heritage Auctions 11/29/2006-The Green Tree Collection.
