Lot 41

1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0, Reverse of 1803 PCGS graded F15. Medium steel and chocolate brown. No corrosion or verdigris, only light contact marks scattered over both sides. The notable marks are a dull "boomerang-shaped" scratch in the field left of the hair ribbon, a nearly horizontal nick in the field before the neck, and a dull nick on the 0 in the date. MDS, Manley state 3.0, with die rust scattered over both sides (tiny lumps on the coin). The curl left of the date is open thanks to die lapping. Struck with the reverse properly aligned head-to-foot. A decent example of this popular overdate variety in spite of the minor marks, and it is superior to the plate coin for the 3.0 die state in the Manley reference on the half cent series. Our grade is net VG10+. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 8 finer for the variety. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
Ex First American Coins 2/16/2006-The Green Tree Collection.
