Lot 4096

Jewish Coinage. Roman Judaea Capta Series. Titus, 79-81 CE. AE Sestertius minted at Rome as Caesar by Vespasian, 72-73 CE. Laureate head right of Titus. Reverse: Victory standing right inscribing shield hung on palm tree. RIC 501 [as R2]; H-1540 (this coin illustrated). Tooled on obverse in hair and wreath area. Choice Very Fine.

The inclusion of this coin in the Judaea Capta series is moot — Vespasian and his sons had many victories in far-flung areas of the Roman Empire, notably on the northern frontiers and in Germania, as well as in Judaea.
