Lot 403

1796 S-88 R4 Liberty Cap Fair-2. Double Struck. Slightly glossy dark chocolate and olive brown with lighter brown toning on the highpoints. Reasonably smooth but not perfectly so with traces of minor roughness on both sides but no verdigris. A dull but rather deep gouge is obvious in the center of the obverse. This cent was struck at least 2 times, and both strikes were about 10% off center in different directions, once to K-10 and again to K-5. The result is a cent with a larger diameter than normal and obvious evidence of doubling on both sides. In addition there is evidence of a third tab strike on the reverse where an arc of dentils is present at K-11. The date is visible but only the 6 is clear.
Estimated Value $200-UP.

Realized $617
