Buchanan, James and William Howard Taft: Two Autographed Letters Signed, One Free Frank by James Garfield. James Buchanan (1791-1868) Autographed letter signed while serving as Congressman from Pennsylvania. Free franked letter dated January, 1827, boasts two signatures of Buchanan and one secretarial. 1p folded 10 x 16" with soft folds visible from being folded three times to 3 x 4½" with wax seal remnant still visible. Letter addressed to Samuel Dale Esq. expressing the difficulty of a petition for a Joseph Nielson, brother of the Register of the Treasury in Kentucky, given the current session of Congress. In very fine condition, both signatures of Buchanan are clean and bold.

William Howard Taft (1857-1930) Autographed letter signed dated August 7, 1898 while still acting as Chief Justice of the Unites States. On simple note paper addressed to a George Leonard in Cincinnati, Ohio where he lists several checks enclosed for certain individuals, likely personnel employed for his home there. 8 x 5", original envelope included with Taft's signature in excellent condition.
