Great Britain, 1957, "SR 53" Flown Cover (No. 1 of 6) This 5.5x4.5" cover has a 21 May, Cowes, Isle of Wight machine cancel and a 16 May "First Flight, SR53 Rocket Jet" handstamped cachet. The cover is signed by John Book, Chief Test Pilot on the face and numbered/signed by J. Wotherspoon on the reverse. In addition, there is a two line black handstamp: "From the Harry A. Gordon Collection / Authenticated by H. G. I. Stamp Co. N. Y." on the reverse. Original newspaper clippings are enclosed that say the SR53's potential top speed exceeded the strength of its metalurgy. A rare cover we have not seen before. 1996 E-Z catalog No. XX15C1, cat. $250.
