(Prussian Military Hilitary) Gerhard Scharnhorst, Karl von Grolman, and Hermann von Boyen -- Reorganizers of the Prussian Army. Gerhard Scharnhorst (1755-1813) Noted Prussian general, responsible for the reformation of the professional army of Prussia into a modern national army modeled on the reforms of the French revolutionary army. Clausewitz was one of his followers. He died from wounds he received at the 1813 Battle of Lutzen Letter Signed, Oct. 12, 1813, 8¾x7½, in German.
Karl von Grolman (1777-1843) Prussian general who fought against Napoleon in numerous campaigns, including the War of Liberation and Waterloo; he even fought as a volunteer in the Peninsula Campaign. He was a close associate of Scharnhorst and influential in the reorganization of the Prussian army after the defeats of Jena and Auerstadt. Letter Signed, 1835, 13½x8¾, in German.
Hermann von Boyen (1771-1848) Prussian officer who fought at Auerstadt against Napoleon and later helped reorganize the Prussian army with Scharnnhorst. Autograph Letter Signed, 1815, 9x8, in German. At the time of the writing of this letter, he had been promoted to Major General and was War Minister to King Frederick William III. Estimated Value $400 - 600
