(Napoleonic Wars) Anne-Jean-Marie-René Savary, Duc Rovigo & Louis-Alexandre Berthier--Two Important Napoleonic Officials. Letter Signed by Ann-Jean-Marie-René Savary, as the Duc de Rovigo (1774-1833), 3pp, 9x7", April 14, 1815, 2pp, in French. Written during Napoleon's 100 Days, after his escape from Elba, to M. Bellangêre regarding an order Bellangêre had given to his squadron and wanting to know Bellangêre's intentions regarding service to the Emperor. Savary was one of Napoleon's most stalwart defenders during the critical 100 Days. Savary had served in the Revolutionary Army in the 1790s and in many of Napoleon's battles during the Consulate and the Empire; he also succeeded Fouché in the Ministry of Police and later tried to accompany the deposed Emperor to St. Helena. A remarkable letter. With a Document Signed by Louis-Alexandre Berthier (1753-1815), as "Général en Chef," on Army of Italy letterhead, headquarters in Milan, 1p, 7½x8¾", dated 28 of nivôse, year 6 of the Republic (1797), in French. To Citoyen Ordonnateur (the Paymaster) referring to a law fixing the number of horses generals and majors should have, the cost, and reimbursement. Berthier was a French Revolutionary General, a Marshal of the Empire, twice Minister of War and later Napoleon's Chief of Staff. He died under mysterious circumstances just before the Battle of Waterloo. Estimated Value $400 - 600
