Lot 358

1836 N-7 R4 AU58. AU-58. Gobrecht Head. Lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy chocolate brown with frosty reddish chocolate undertones on the reverse. The surfaces are smooth and nearly void of marks. A microscopic planchet flake between star 2 and the chin and another right of the bottom of the date are the best identifying marks. Sharply struck E-MDS with smooth, slightly reflective fields on the obverse and a faint die crack at TED-ST (your cataloger has yet to see one of these without this crack). The rim cud break at D-STA has not formed. Called MS60 and tied for CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says AU50 net EF45 and tied for CC#9, his photo #21515.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex French's 9/30/48:442-Dr. Kenneth J. Sartoris 5/72-Del Bland 10/7/72-C. Douglas Smith 2/75.
