1842 N-9 R2 Large Date PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC Approved. The obverse is frosty light brown and tan with underlying faded mint color peeking through in protected areas; the reverse is lustrous mint red mellowing to bluish steel brown and light olive with at least 20% of that side showing faded mint color. Nicely struck with just a few identifying marks. These include a small swipe of darker toning left of star 7, two more in the field right of star 4, a speck of dark crud nestled between two dentils below the 2 in the date, and a spot of lighter toning above the C in CENT. E-MDS, die state a late. All the fine die lines described by Grellman are present and the fields are starting to show microscopic radial flowlines. Our grade is MS62+, CC#3 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 7; 1 finer in 65. Estimated Value $2,000 - UP
